The ELF projector (short for electronic flux), also called the ELF gun or just ELF, is a unique weapon both in that it deals no damage, and it doesn't require aiming. Rather than dealing damage, the ELF connects with any player within a certain distance in the general direction you are looking using a beam of electricity that drains his energy. It is an energy-based weapon, so the beam can be sustained for as long as you want until you run out of energy yourself.

[edit] Usage

[edit] Cloaking

The ELF is a particularly useful gun in detecting and subduing cloakers. Due to its properties, cloaking will not negate its lock-on ability. Therefore, by merely 'sweeping' a room with the fire button held down it will lock onto and effectively reveal and drain the energy of a cloaker. This will result in revealing their position as well as reduce their means for continued cloaking because of the energy drain.

[edit] Shields

Since the ELF drains energy, this in turn will affect anything that utilizes shields, such as an individual with a shield pack, any vehicle, or any mechanical object such as a turret. As a result, it can provide supportive fire against base rapers which are known for carrying shield packs, or assist in destroying base defenses. It does have drawbacks, however. As it reduces energy by a fixed amount, it may become useful towards items which have very little energy/shields - such as light armors and base sensors - but it becomes decreasingly apt towards targets with more energy capacity, examples being vehicles and heavy armors. One needs to also calculate if it is more efficient to use a weapon that penetrates shields such as a blaster, or wait until the shields are drained altogether with an ELF.

[edit] Offensive Support

ELF use is most clearly best present when in conjunction with other players. As it drains the energy of a foe, it will render that person unable to jet, crippling their mobility. This will benefit as others will have better success in hitting the individual, but will only work in cases where they are not already in high velocity where amount of energy for jets is less necessary. This is best used when the terrain benefits you and not the target, with cliffs, walls and other inclines being an impediment to the target to gain sustained speed.
