Help talk:Editing
From Tribes2Wiki
[edit] Protecting pages
One thing I want to make clear: this website is a Tribes 2 information source first, and a Wiki a distant second. While restricting edits may defeat the intended use of the MediaWiki software, I don't care. If the need arises, I will do what it takes to ensure the quality of the content here stays up to par with what we want. The only reason this website uses the MediaWiki software is because it is incredibly easy to use and edit, it organizes information really nicely, and it's convenient to allow input from multiple people - and by "multiple people", I am really only referring to a small handful. The ability of any user to make changes is not a reason this software was employed, and I will not let that get in the way of the content if it comes to that. I would absolutely love to restrict all edits to only a select few approved individuals, but I haven't done that for only two reasons: 1) I can't decide on enough people to be a part of the team, and 2) Wikis are theoretically supposed to be open to the public. I don't consider #2 to be a remotely good reason, but I haven't had enough trouble administrating this website yet to balance it off of the list. However, if I do run into trouble, I will quickly abandon that second reason and make an effort to rectify the first reason. -- Kryand 15:20, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
