TribesNext RC2 is out! — April 2, 2009
We are admittedly a little late with this announcement, but last week, TribesNext released RC2 (release candidate 2) of their multiplayer patch. This patch fixes several bugs and adds a few extra features. This is still a beta release, but so far the beta has been proceeding nicely. You can find the download instructions on the TribesNext Info page.
Some things not included yet are full in-game browser support and anti-cheat functionality. However, the groundwork for both of those systems is in place, so we can expect them to be implemented in the relatively near future.
Tribes 2 Competition Is Back! — February 23, 2009
Over the past few weeks, teams have been forming on TWL, and they have begun to challenge one another. The first match was last week, and two more will take place tonight. So far, the ladder is off to a better start than we could have anticipated. There are already eight teams with rosters ready to play, and a few more in the works. Check out the ladder here: Tribes 2 7v7 Classic CTF
We could always use more teams, so feel free to get your friends together and come play on the ladder.
Additionally, there are rumors of a tournament in the works. The tournament will be hosted by the operator of the Goon Haven server. Check their website for any specific details when the time comes.
TribesNext has entered open beta! — January 3, 2009
As promised, TribesNext has been released to the public. You can find the download instructions on the TribesNext Info page. The release is still beta. Check the "known issues" link on the info page for a list of some known issues. If you come across a new problem, then post about it in the forums. There aren't many servers using the system yet, but you can still connect to "nologin" servers while using "online" mode - though you may have to add those servers to your favorites list while you are running "nologin" mode in order to see them in "online" mode.
TribesNext is the first and only "online" authentication solution. Any "nologin" solution - such as the one mentioned below - has inherent security concerns. TribesNext, on the other hand, alleviates those concerns.
